Owner's guide
As an owner or operator of an elevator, escalator, or moving walk system, you should take steps to promote the safe operation of the equipment. Regardless of the manufacturer of your equipment, we suggest that you take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with your equipment, and its safe and proper use.
This guide provides an overview of the basic information you should know about your building’s equipment. It contains routine operating features and functions of the systems, as well as preventive maintenance guidelines.
Owner's responsibilities
At Schindler, we’re here for you 24/7. But as an owner, there are a few simple things you can do to ensure you get the most from your equipment.
We recommend the following:
- Place a service call when a technician is needed
- Perform monthly fire service testing and keep record onsite, as required by code
- Obtain a Certificate of Inspection by the proper jurisdiction and keep a copy in this binder, and in the elevator
- Retain the keys in a safe location
- Never reset the power to the elevator (only to be performed by a trained elevator technician)
- Keep door sill area clean and free of debris (this will prevent service calls)
- Keep all non-elevator related material out of the elevator machine room, closet, or and/or pit, as required by code
- Maintain proper room temperature in elevator machine rooms
- Promote safe ridership
