(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) – In partnership with the Charlotte Knights, Schindler Elevator Corporation hosted an autism friendly game on Friday, August 16th at 1:05pm and encouraged families with members who have special needs to come and experience a more sensory-friendly environment.
As part of the game day experience, there were several nonprofit organizations that served those with autism on the concourse sharing information about their work and how to get involved. The Knights also planned to adjust some of the visual and audio effects that were part of the regular in-game programming to be more considerate of those who may experience sensory sensitivities.
In addition, the Knights identified multiple quiet places for fans that need to take a break from the crowds and those areas were marked with designated signage throughout the ballpark. Smalls groups and families who were interested in completing a calming craft during the game were also able to sign up for a three-inning session at Guest Services behind Section 105.
Earlier this season, the Knights began offering sensory bags, sponsored by Schindler Elevator, for guests with sensory needs. The bags, which include items that help individuals block out crowd noise and distractions to focus on and enjoy the game, were available for check out at Guest Services during the Knights game.
About Charlotte Knights The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and play their home games at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte, NC.
