AIA courses for Architects

Schindler offers courses approved for credit from the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) Continuing Education System (CES).


AIA/CES-approved courses

Each seminar provides the opportunity for architects, designers and builders to learn about the latest developments in escalator and other general vertical transportation technology and earn Learning Units (LUs).

  • "Escalators for Public Transportation" (ESC001) instructs AIA members on how to choose the right escalator for their public transit requirements. 1.5 hours and 1.5 Learning Units (LUs).
  • "Vertical Transportation - Escalators" (ESC002) focuses on escalator architectural features, mechanical components of escalators and escalator design drawing review. 1.5 hours and 1.5 Learning Units (LUs).
  • "General Vertical Transportation" (VTB001) provides members with information about industry product offerings and applications. 1.5 hours and 1.5 Learning Units (LUs).
  • "Sustainable Design" (SDSEC1) includes information on how elevators and escalators contribute to LEED1 certification. 1 hour and 1 Learning Unit (LUs).
  • “Machine Room Less Elevators” (MRL2018) provides an overview of machine room-less elevators. The course qualifies as HSW (Health, Safety, Wellness) and is approved for 1.75LU (Learning Units).
  • "Vertical Transportation: Destination Controls for Elevators" (VTPORT1) provides information about the features and benefits of destination dispatching for new and existing installations.  The course qualifies as HSW (Health, Safety, Wellness).  1 hour and 1 Learning Unit (LU).
  • "Vertical Transporation - Moving Walks" (VTMV01) provides an overview of moving walk and building requirements for typical moving walk applications.  The course qualifies as HSW (Health, Safety, Wellness) and is approved for 1.5 Learning Units (LUs).

Online courses

In addition to the "Lunch & Learn" programs, Schindler-sponsored online courses are available.

  • "Vertical Transportation: Machine Room-Less Elevators" focuses on the history, newest technologies and green aspects of MRL elevators. This 1-credit course is backed by 10 different accrediting organizations, including AIA.
  • "Vertical Transporation: Destination Controls for Elevators" provides an overview of destination-dispatching technology and how it has improved building traffic management and optimized passenger mobility. This 1-credit course is backed by 19 different accrediting organizations, including AIA.
  • "Raising the Bar in Elevator Technology: Elevating architecture with destination dispatch controls" focuses on destination-dispatching technology and how it has improved building traffic management and optimized passenger mobility. Credits: 1 AIA LU/Elective; 1 AIBD P-CE; 0.1 IACET CEU.
