Applications for our Apprenticeship program will open each year from 1st February until 31st March for a July / August start. Successful applicants will be based out of our Coventry, Weybridge (London) or Warrington offices.

Schindler Australia’s apprenticeship program has been running for over 30 years.

Why Schindler

Founded in Switzerland in 1874, the Schindler Group is a leading global provider of lifts, escalators and related services. We are Europe’s largest elevator and escalator company and a key player in the UK market place with ambitious growth planned for the future.
Schindler UK’s apprenticeship program has been running for over 4 years and we currently have 16 apprentices in our program. We partnership with one of the UK’s leading work based technical training provider. Unlike many other companies, we employ our apprentices directly.
All of our apprentices are indentured, guaranteeing employment for the three years required to complete the apprenticeship.
During this time, we will do all that we can to assist you in obtaining your NVQ Level 3 Lift Engineering qualification and BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.


Our Program involves rotations through our New Installations and Service departments.

Program Structure

Our three-year engineering program involves rotations throughout the business, focusing on our New Installations, Maintenance and Service, Modernisation and Repairs departments, ensuring that you gain exposure to a wide range of electrical, mechanical, and telecommunications disciplines.
Working closely with industry experts, you will build a full range of skills in: Installations, Maintenance and Service, Modernisation and Repairs on Lifts, Escalator and Moving Walkways. You will also learn how to interact with customers and discover what exceptional customer service really looks like.
The variety of the scheme will enable you to get a good understanding of all aspects of what we do, assisting you when deciding what area of the business you would like to specialise in.


Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend trade school.

Training Opportunities

Apprentices will follow a structured training programme which will lead to you becoming a fully trained Lift Engineer. The training plan consist of an onsite job rotation programme which provides on the job learning across the full scope of Schindler business operation. As part of the work based learning, Apprentices will complete a hand’s on NVQ Level 3 Qualification.
In addition, you will attend college one day per week by way of day release for 2 years to complete a BTEC Level 3 in Electrical Engineering to complete the full Advanced Apprenticeship Framework.
Upon Competition of the apprenticeship, you will gain a Level 3 QCF NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance following an appropriate pathway into Lift or Escalator Servicing or Repairs; or a Level 3 QCF NVQ Diploma in Installation and Commissioning, following an appropriate pathway into New Lift Installations.

At Schindler we have a success rate of over 95% of apprentices completing their trade.

Future Career Opportunities

At Schindler we have a success rate of over 95% of apprentices not only completing their trade, but deciding to continue their careers within the Schindler Group.

Upon finishing their apprenticeships, some Schindler graduates have taken their careers well beyond the electrical field.

Whilst many choose to continue in the trade, some have taken career paths leading to technical, engineering, sales, operations and management roles.

Opportunities are also regularly available for work interstate or overseas. The possibilities are endless. With Schindler, it all depends on where you would like your career to take you!

Pre-requisite Information

The minimum age and requirement for entry into apprenticeships is generally limited to individuals who are 16 years old and who have completed their GCSE’s. Applicants should possess 5 GCSEs passes (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including Maths, English and ICT to be considered for Schindler’s apprenticeship.

How to stand out?
If you have completed, or will be about to complete a Level 2 Foundation course in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering that contains a practical element, such as a Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) or have previous work experience in domestic/ commercial electrical / construction work you will have a strong application to help you progress through our selection criteria, although this is not an essential requirement.
