The German business newspaper Handelsblatt, together with the University of St. Gallen and the IT service provider Capgemini, honored Schindler with the Digital Business Innovation Award 2015. This award is presented to CIOs for innovative projects and initiatives relating to the digitization of their business. The award ceremony took place in Munich, Germany.
Michael Nilles, CIO of Schindler, commented: “I am honored to accept this outstanding recognition on behalf of Schindler. From the outside our business is often seen as a slow industry - this award will certainly help to change this misperception by illustrating our fast pace of innovation. More than 20’000 Schindler front line employees worldwide now work every day using a “digital toolcase” installed on Apple devices alongside their more traditional maintenance, installation and modernization skills (e.g. technical data of installed base, error analysis, service notifications, spare parts ordering). Elevators and escalators are integrated via the Internet of Things as smart products in the value chain.
“Digitization is now firmly established as an integral part of Schindler’s DNA. Digital Business has reached day-to-day business.” explained jury member, Dr. Uwe Dumslaff, CTO and Corporate Vice President from Capgemini, in his laudatory speech.
Schindler won this prestigious award ahead of strong, Europe-wide competition like Airbus or Volkswagen.
