New Schindler 5500 elevator offers a perfect fit

Schindler’s new elevator for commercial and high-end residential buildings delivers unprecedented flexibility, ensuring a perfect fit for both building and architectural design.

The Schindler 5500 can be configured to maximize rental area and relies on the latest technology to help lower a building’s carbon footprint and provide a smooth, quiet ride. The elevator also offers an impressive range of interior design choices, from functional to sophisticated.

Schindler 5500 - Designed to fit

Designed to fit

The Schindler 5500 is designed to provide innovative solutions for the mobility requirements of tomorrow’s urban life. Its adaptability makes it an easy choice for a wide variety of buildings, including apartments, offices, hotels, hospitals, shopping centers, transportation hubs and stadiums. Thanks to system architecture based on Schindler’s highly advanced Suspension Traction Media (STM) technology, the elevator uses less space and provides passengers with an exceptionally quiet ride. The Schindler 5500’s use of advanced control systems and high performance make it ideal for optimizing traffic management in buildings up to 150 m.

Scalable car sizes

The Schindler 5500 anticipates the needs of today’s building engineers, designers and architects. With scalable car sizes, the elevator can be easily adapted to fit various shaft dimensions. The Schindler 5500 offers both a machine room-less (MRL) and a mini-machine room (MMR) configuration, with the ability to install the controller on different levels. Additional features like optimized traffic management, enhanced space utilization and minimized building interfaces are options to increase rentable space and lower building costs.

Elegant options

Mindful of aesthetic considerations, the developers of the Schindler 5500 turned to Italian designers for elegant interior design options. A wide range of materials and styles grant maximum freedom of creativity and ensure seamless integration with a building’s architectural concept. More than ever before, architects will enjoy the freedom to realize their ideas: the bare elevator car is now their canvas. Impressively, the Schindler 5500 allows up to 50% of the rated passenger load to be given over to interior design features.

Environmentally friendly

As with all Schindler’s products, the Schindler 5500 is designed not only to be highly efficient and clean, but also to support the overall energy efficiency of the building. With its optimized drive and traction media, reduced weight, regenerative drive and enhanced standby function, it consumes significantly less energy than (comparable) (proposal: traditional) elevators. The Schindler 5500 earned a VDI A-rating from the Association of German engineers and can contribute to green building credits. Schindler always strives to reduce the overall environmental impact of its products beyond the operation phase, covering their entire lifecycle, from production to recycling.

Fits modern cities

“What’s unusual about this elevator is that it is a single modular system that can be configured to fit various building types,” says Eric Darmenia, head of the Schindler 5500 project team. “It offers speeds from one to three meters per second, handles loads from 630-2500 kilograms and provides an extensive range of features. Thanks to all of this, the Schindler 5500 clearly meets the elevating requirements of today’s modern cities.”
