Beijing National Stadium "Bird's Nest"

The National Stadium, designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, breaks new ground architecturally: its nickname “Bird's Nest”, derives from the fact that the façade is made up entirely of intertwined steel “branches” that also support the massive structure. It was designed for use throughout the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics and can hold up to 80,000 spectators.
