Schindler Award 2010 startet in die entscheidende Phase

Mit einer Rekordbeteiligung von 1'369 Architekturstudenten aus 34 europäischen Ländern endete am 30. April 2010 die Registrierung für den Schindler Award 2010. Die Aufgabe besteht darin, Ideen für die Umgestaltung eines Teiles des Olympiaparks Berlin zu entwickeln, die das Areal für Menschen aller Altersgruppen und mit unterschiedlichen körperlichen Voraussetzungen zugänglich macht. Der Wettbewerb richtet sich an Studierende der Masterstudiengänge und des letzten Jahres des Bachelorstudiums. Er gibt ihnen Gelegenheit, ihre Entwürfe von einer internationalen Jury aus renommierten Architekten und Städteplanern bewerten zu lassen.

Jurypräsidentin Françoise-Hélène Jourda, Professorin für Architektur an der Technischen Universität Wien, beschreibt den Wettbewerb von 2010 als eine Möglichkeit für Studierende, “innovative Ansätze vorzuschlagen, die das tägliche Leben aller Menschen, unabhängig von ihrem Alter oder ihren körperlichen Voraussetzungen, verbessern würden“.

Die Aufgabe der Teilnehmer besteht darin, einen Teil des Olympiageländes zu einem ansprechenden, funktionellen und dabei für alle zugänglichen Park umzugestalten. Gleichzeitig sollen sie ein Konzept für eine bessere Erreichbarkeit von der nahegelegenen U-Bahn-Station entwickeln.

"Zugänglichkeit für alle"

Das zentrale Thema des Schindler Awards ist "Zugänglichkeit für alle", eine Designphilosophie, in deren Mittelpunkt eine barrierefreie Mobilität steht. Jurymitglied und Rollstuhlfahrer Joe Manser betont, dass der Schindler Award nicht darauf abzielt, “spezielle, auf Personen mit Einschränkungen ausgelegte Lösungen zu entwickeln, sondern darauf, ein integratives architektonisches Design zu fördern“.

Der Architekt Thomas Sieverts, ein weiteres Jurymitglied, betonte, die Teilnehmer sollten sich des historischen Hintergrunds des Wettbewerbsgeländes bewusst sein, das den Rahmen für die Olympischen Spiele 1936 bildete. "Ich hoffe auf Vorschläge, die eine visionäre Aussage zur Einbeziehung behinderter Menschen in Sport- und Freizeitaktivitäten treffen.“

Die Siegerprojekte der Studierenden und der Schulen werden auf einer speziellen Zeremonie am 14. Januar 2011 in Berlin bekannt gegeben.
