Schindler acquires leading Colombian elevator brand

The Schindler Group is pleased to announce the acquisition of Colombia’s leading "Andino" brand of elevators. The transaction gives Schindler a strong position in the local elevator market.

The Schindler Group acquired 100% ownership of the elevator and escalator business of Coservicios S.A. All employees and the customer portfolio of ‘Ascensores Andino’ will be integrated into Schindler. The new company will trade under the name ‘Schindler Andino’ and will offer customers both the Schindler and Andino range of elevator and escalator products.

Rodrigo Villa, the entrepreneur who built Coservicios S.A. and will become chairman of the board of Schindler Andino, said that he was looking forward to having a strategic alliance with the multinational elevator company. “With the Schindler organization, our customers will continue receiving the quality products and services to which they are accustomed, and will also now benefit from the support of a global organization.”

Excellent reputation

For his part, Jakob Züger, CEO of Schindler’s operations in the Americas, said Schindler was delighted to welcome Andinos’ elevator and escalator customers and employees. “The Andino brand has an excellent reputation in the Colombian market, and the prospect of substantially increasing Schindler’s presence in Colombia is very promising.”

Christian de Preux, Area Manager of Schindler for Latin American Countries and Antonio Vives, General Manager of Schindler Colombia are working hand in hand with Rodrigo Villa and his management team to guarantee a smooth transition for customers and employees of the newly created Schindler Andino.

Since 1975, Andino elevators have been sold in the Colombian market through branches in eight cities including Medellín, Bogotá, Cartagena, Bucaramanga, Pereira, Cali, Barranquilla, and Ibagué. While producing Andino elevators, Coservicios was the first manufacturer in Colombia to receive the ISO 9001 quality certification.
