The service fleet remains the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions at Schindler, representing around two-thirds of our total carbon footprint from Scope 1and 2. With effect from 2016, Schindler included fugitive emissions originating from refrigerant losses in our buildings’ air-conditioning systems in the Scope 1 reporting, which were found to result in about 1.5 kilotons of CO2-equivalent emissions. Therefore compared to 2015, Scope 1 emissions increased by 1%.
Indirect greenhouse gas emissions represented 28% of Schindlers total carbon footprint from Scope 1 and 2. Compared to 2015, Scope 2 emissions increased by 25% due to an increase in business activities in several locations. This includes the start of operations of the Jiading Campus, as well as the first-time consolidation of the XJ-Schindler joint venture in China.
Improvements in safety
Safety is one of Schindler´s core values. In 2016, Schindler´s lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) improved by a further 8%, compared to the previous year. In the reporting year the underlying Behavior-Based Safety Initiative focussed on safety leadership training, safety walks, safety awareness videos and specialized training on fall protection, hoistway access, and accident investigations.
Further progress in Customer Excellence program
Over 136,000 surveys were conducted in 2016 to assess our level of customer satisfaction. The Net Promoter Score improved by 11% in 2016 and all key indicators moved in the right direction in the reporting year. Going forward Schindler is committed to:
Further strengthening and sustaining the changes in customer loyalty
Continuing to drive our Customer Excellence process quality
Delivering a flawless customer experience
