Schindler joins the industry initiative, further driving sustainable procurement.
From 2020, Schindler will be a member of Railsponsible, a voluntary membership group of companies in the railway industry committed to driving sustainable procurement. Joining makes sense, as we share common ambitions and challenges with the sector, e.g. high product responsibility, long product cycles, regular maintenance and modernization demand, as well as a highly regulated framework.
With Railsponsible, Schindler will share and learn with others to address current and future challenges in global supply chain management. Railsponsible is a railway industry initiative that aims to continuously improve the sustainability practices of companies and their global supply chains, and share best practices and processes.
Railsponsible also aims to increase efficiency in the analysis of supply chain CSR practices, thereby promoting greater transparency to meet increasing stakeholder requirements.
The initiative is in alignment with the United Nations Global Compact, which refers to ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. As a voluntary membership group of companies, it is facilitated by BSR, a global non-profit organization that works with global businesses on sustainability issues.
Schindler relies on a network of many suppliers worldwide for production materials and services. Actively managing and improving our global supply chain in a sustainable manner is one of our six sustainability priorities. We want to improve supplier performance, competitiveness, ethical behavior, and environmental awareness while maintaining highest standards of safety and quality.
We share ambitions and challenges in our supply chain with the Railsponsible members as our business develops in a similar environment with extraordinarily high product responsibility, long product cycles, regular maintenance and modernization demand, as well as a highly regulated framework. With Railsponsible, Schindler can share and learn with others to address current and future challenges in global supply chain management.
By signing the initiative charter, we have committed to the initiative’s vision that has all suppliers adhere to ethical, social, and environmental business practices. We will provide the resources needed to implement successful supply chain sustainability, report regularly on the sustainability performance of our company and our supply chain, and assure coherence with the Code of Conduct and UN Global Compact Guiding Principles.
We encourage our suppliers to participate in our supplier assessment program, established with EcoVadis, and share their results. By 2022, we will have independent sustainability assessments for our component suppliers – reflecting at least 75% of our purchases.
