Taking the next step

Once you’ve decided to apply, follow this helpful advice to stand out and get noticed.

Preparation is the key – Your application is your opportunity to make a lasting first impression. It allows you to reveal who you really are and to present yourself to a potential future employer. The application should consist of a motivation letter, resume / CV, and letters of reference.

Be prepared

Learn as much as you can about Schindler. We always notice those who prepare well. Think about how your assets and career goals are aligned with ours. Tell us why you will succeed in our organization.

Be yourself

Show us that you can handle the pressure of an interview by just being yourself. If you don’t know the answer to a question, don’t pretend that you do. The most important thing is to be honest and truthful. These are Schindler values and we look for them in the people we hire.

Present yourself

You were invited to an interview based on your qualifications. But you might have had valuable experiences not directly related to the position as well. Try to find interesting examples of skills and knowledge you have acquired during your career that will help you at the interview.

Practice

You can prepare using online lists of typical interview questions. Answer those questions out loud in front of a mirror or with a friend or a relative. You can even record your responses and watch how you did. These methods help you assess what needs to be improved so your interview runs smoothly.

Ask questions

The recruitment process is a dialogue, so if you want to know who we are and what we do, your interview is the time to do so. By asking questions you not only assess whether Schindler is the right place for you to succeed, but it shows us that you are keen on learning about our company.

Make a good impression

Visit your interview location the day before it takes place so you don’t have trouble finding it and can arrive on time. Dress appropriately and professionally. We will judge you not only on what you say, but also by the way you present yourself.

Resume

A CV / resume is an opportunity to be noticed in 30 seconds, so make it count. A well-crafted resume will also give us a sense of who you are as a person, your experiences and interests. Keep in mind, this is the key that opens the doors to an interview.

Things to take into account when you write a CV / resume:

  • Try to make an impression
  • A resume should encourage us to invite you for an interview.
  • Think about the job you are applying for and tailor your skills and experiences to match
  • Demonstrate your attributes through examples and supporting details
  • Keep it simple (max. two pages) and well-structured

Key information usually included is:

  • Personal details and contact information
  • A short introduction where you describe briefly what you have to offer
  • Education
  • Work experience
  • Other skills and achievements
  • Personal interests or hobbies
  • Languages
  • References

Cover Letter

In some countries, it is standard that you attach a cover letter to your application. Even though we believe that a resume should speak for itself highlighting your fit to a specific position, it could make sense to use a cover letter helping to explain your motivation for applying, your understanding of the field you are applying for, and highlighting how you can help us to succeed. Try to establish a direct link connecting your key skills, experiences, and competencies with the skills required for the position you are interested in… and be convincing!

  • Use your cover letter to show your personality, curiosity and interest in our company
  • Show us how closely linked your profile is to the requirements of the position
  • Showcase the key achievements of your career that illustrate how you can succeed with us
  • If you are a graduate, tell us about your extracurricular experiences, don’t focus too much on your degrees

Remember to keep it short and get directly to the point… Good luck!
