History

In 1874, 12 years before Johannesburg was officially declared a mining camp by Paul Kruger, the firm of Schindler & Company Limited was established in Lucerne, Switzerland, for the manufacture of lifting equipment and machines.

In 1949 Schindler Lifts (SA) (Pty) Limited was formed with offices, a workshop and a factory in Johannesburg. Subsequently workshops, offices and stores in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Botswana & Namibia were established.

Schindler Lifts is one of the largest suppliers of new escalators and elevators in Southern Africa and sub-Saharan Africa today.

It provides jobs to over 600 employees and has operations throughout all the major cities. Schindler designs, installs, services and modernises transport systems for almost every building type. Schindler products can be found in many well-known buildings throughout Africa, including premium commercial office buildings, major airports, national shopping centre chains, exclusive residential apartments and speciality buildings.
